Lidia Daimiel

I have a PhD in Biology (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, 2010). I started my postdoctoral training at IMDEA Food in 2011, In 2015, I was promoted to Junior Researcher. At that time, I started my own research group. My research interest is to describe how nutrients modulate the genome and the epigenome. At IMDEA Food, I contributed to describe the dietary modulation of microRNAs involved in obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. My studies in this field enormously contributed to the knowledge about the role of diet and dietary compounds on human health and paved the way for the development of new tools to prevent these diseases. A patent based on a panel of dietary modulated microRNAs as biomarkers of response to nutritional intervention is being developed from my studies. In 2015, I got involved in the PREDIMED-Plus trial with the role of Principal Investigator (PI). PREDIMED-Plus is a consortium of 23 hospitals, universities and research centers from Spain (https://www.predimedplus.com/). Within the frame of PREDIMED-Plus, I focused on the study of the effect of nutrients like choline, betaine or spermidine, on cardiometabolic traits and molecular markers of aging, such as HDL functionality, immunosenescence and regulation of aging-related microRNAs. I have also the PI or Co-PI of other nutritional studies such as METHYL-UP (intervention trial, Co-PI), InLifeAging (observational study, Co-IP) and ENSATI (Intervention trial, IP, https://ensati.wixsite.com/ensati) So far, I have published more than 140 papers (h index = 31) that accumulate more than 2400 citations. I am also a member of the EIT-Food Healthy Aging Think & Do Tank, the SENESCE2030 and the AtheroNET COST Actions.
