Maria Pia Abbracchio

Maria Pia Abbracchio, PhD, is Full Professor of Pharmacology and Precision pharmacology and gender therapy at the University of Milan, where, from 2018- 2024 she has served as Deputy Rector with registered legal signature, and Vice Rector Research and Innovation. From 2020-2022, the Italian Ministry of University and Research nominated her Chair of the Pharmaceutical and Pharmacological Sciences Group for the National Plan for Research and Innovation 2021-2027 inspired by the EC Horizon Europe program. From 2019-2024, she has acted as Research responsible person of the 4EU+ Alliance financed by the EU Higher Education Erasmus+ initiative, and of the TRAIN4EU+ associated program. From 2021-2024, she has acted as the President of Gruppo2003 per la Ricerca scientifica, a no profit association bringing together all the highly cited Italian scientists (less that 0,5% of all publishing scientists). From 2016, Member of the Scientific Committee invited each year to nominate candidates for the NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSIOLOGY OR MEDICINE (direct invitation by the Assembly for the Nobel Prize of the Karolinska Institute, Sweden). She is/has been member the Board of Directors of the University of Milan, Fondazione Filarete, Fondazione Unimi, Collegio di Milano, Lake Como School for Advanced Studies, Lombardy Life Sciences Cluster Association of Regione Lombardia, and of the D3 4Health Foundation (Digital Driven Diagnostics, prognostics and therapeutics for Sustainable Health care), funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, Next Generation EU initiative. Scientific Secretary of about 50 international scientific congresses and Program Chair of the ISN/ASN conference in New York in Aug 2025. Member, by invitation, of TIWS - TOP ITALIAN WOMEN SCIENTISTS, the Club of the Italian biomedical female scientists with IF over 60, founded by Fondazione Onda in 2016. Author/co-author of more that 200 articles in international journals cited over 17,200 times.
In February 2014, she has been appointed by President Giorgio Napolitano motu proprio COMMANDER OF THE ORDER OF MERIT OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC, the highest honorary order of the Republic, for scientific merits.
