Giovanni Fiorito
Research Scientist
IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini

Giovanni Fiorito is a research scientist in molecular epidemiology and epigenetics whose work focuses on ageing biology, lifestyle epidemiology, and multi-omic data analysis. He leads the Molecular Epidemiology research group within the Clinical Bioinformatics Unit at IRCCS Istituto Giannina Gaslini and serves as Visiting Professor at Trinity College Dublin, collaborating with the The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) research group.
Originally trained in mathematics, he obtained a PhD in Complex Systems for Life Sciences from the University of Torino. His interdisciplinary background combines quantitative sciences, epidemiology, and computational biology to investigate the interplay between genetic, epigenetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors in human health and disease.
His research focuses on DNA methylation (DNAm)-based biomarkers and epigenetic clocks as indicators of biological ageing, with particular interest in epigenetic age acceleration and the influence of modifiable lifestyle factors, including diet and physical activity, on ageing trajectories. By integrating advanced statistical modeling, machine learning, and multi-omic approaches, his work aims to identify molecular signatures associated with healthy ageing and age-related disease risk.
Giovanni Fiorito has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed scientific publications, receiving over 5,000 citations. He is actively involved in international collaborations investigating the application of epigenetic biomarkers in population health research and precision prevention strategies.
