

Hakan Karaosman
Full Professor

Dr Hakan Karaosman is a world-renowned expert on, and advocate for, sustainability in fashion supply
chains. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Politecnico di Milano and serves as Societal Impact
Editor at the Journal of Supply Chain Management. Previously, he was an associate professor at Cardiff
University. In 2025, he and Professor Donna Marshall from University College Dublin won the
Financial Times' Responsible Business Education Award for their 'FReSCH' action research project on
just transition. Recognised as a thought leader, Dr Karaosman was included in the Vogue Business 100
Innovators: Class of 2023 in recognition of his contributions to sustainability. In 2023, Greenpeace
Italia honoured him as a Voice for the Climate. During the seminar, Dr Hakan Karaosman presented his
research interests at the intersection of just transition, decarbonisation and alternative futures in the
context of fashion and luxury. He also discussed how activist research can be conducted inclusively and
empathetically. Finally, he talked about the impact of research beyond publications, illustrating how
researchers can inspire change and facilitate inclusive social dialogue to generate a lasting impact
beyond academia.
