Ivan Pecin is Head of the Division for Metabolic Diseases at the Department of Internal Medicine, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, and Head of the National Reference Centre for Rare and Metabolic Diseases designated by the Croatian Ministry of Health. He is also Professor at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine, where he serves as lecturer and course coordinator.
A specialist in Internal Medicine with subspecialties in Endocrinology, Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases, he provides senior clinical consultancy at UHC Zagreb. His expertise spans dyslipidaemias, atherosclerosis prevention, cardiometabolic risk management, rare metabolic diseases, and large‑scale public‑health interventions.
He serves as Vice‑President and Board Member of several Croatian professional societies in the fields of hypertension, atherosclerosis, rare diseases and endocrinology. As Principal Investigator and Coordinator, he leads national and European cardiometabolic research initiatives and public‑health programmes, including campaigns on hypertension literacy, familial hypercholesterolaemia awareness, lipid disorders and rare metabolic diseases. He also coordinates multiple national screening programmes for hypertension, FH and metabolic disorders.
He holds an MD from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. His leadership in cardiovascular prevention campaigns and his scientific contributions have been recognized with awards from Croatian professional societies. He is frequently invited as an expert speaker at major European congresses in cardiovascular and metabolic medicine.
