Maria Pia Abbracchio

Professor of precision pharmacology at the University of Milan, where she served as a Deputy Rector and Vice Rector Research and Innovation from 2018 to 2024. She has been trained at the Medical School, University of Texas at Houston and later at the Department of Anatomy, University College London, UK. She currently works on neuro-regenerative therapies for the aged brain and CNS diseases such as stroke, MS and ALS. She has authored/coauthored more than 250 scientific publications, 12 patents and several books on women in science. Her papers have been cited more than 18,000 times. She is member (by invitation) of the Top Italian Women Scientists (TIWS) of Fondazione Onda. Nominated Highly Cited Scientist in 2009, in 2014 President Giorgio Napolitano appointed her as Commander of the Order of Merit of the italian Republic for scientific merits.
