Massimo Filippi

Director of the Neurology Unit, the Neurophysiology Service, and the Neurorehabilitation Unit at the IRCCS San Raffaele Hospital. He also heads the Functional Unit of the Bioelectrical Signal Analysis Center and currently serves as Director of the Quantitative Neuroimaging Research Unit within the Division of Neuroscience at the same Institute. He is Full Professor of Neurology and Director of the Neurology Residency Program at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, where he is also President of the Degree Program in Physiotherapy, a member of the Academic Senate, and a member of the Steering Committee of the Interfaculty Center for Gender Studies.

He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Milan in 1986, where he also obtained his medical license. He later completed specializations in Neurology at the University of Milan (1990) and in Neurophysiopathology at the University of Pavia (1994). His academic career began as a contract professor in the Neurology Residency Program at the University of Chieti, in the Neurophysiopathology Technician Degree Program at the University of Milan, in the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University, and subsequently in the Neurology Residency Program and Physiokinesitherapy Degree Program at the same University.

He is a member of several major scientific societies, including the Italian Society of Clinical Neurophysiology, the Italian Society of Neurology, the European Neurological Society, the American Academy of Neurology, the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

He serves on the Editorial Board of numerous international scientific journals and is an active reviewer in the fields of neurology and neuroimaging, also collaborating with governmental agencies and private foundations. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Neurology and Associate Editor of Radiology and Neurological Sciences. He is the author of more than 1,000 peer-reviewed scientific publications, with a total H-index of 116 (Scopus), and 196 book chapters.
