

Peter Lansberg
Senior Clinical Staff

Dr. Peter Lansberg serves as a senior clinical staff member in the Molecular Genetics Section, Department of Pediatrics at University Medical Center Groningen. As a distinguished lipidologist, he also contributes to the International Atherosclerosis Society (IAS) as a faculty member on the Executive Committee for the Regional Federation for Europe.
After earning his medical degrees from the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Dr. Lansberg completed his doctoral research on "The Molecular Basis and Treatment of Familial Hypercholesterolemia." Concurrently, he established the
Amsterdam Lipid Clinic and co-founded the Dutch Lipid Clinic Network with Prof. Kastelein in the 1990s, creating a nationwide alliance of academic and general hospitals. During this time, he conducted numerous clinical trials in lipid management and genetic research at Amsterdam's Academic Medical Center.
In 2000, Dr. Lansberg was invited by Dutch health authorities to develop the National Screening program for Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH). His leadership transformed this initiative into the successful Dutch National FH Cascade Screening program. He has since shared his expertise to support similar screening initiatives across Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
From 2008 to 2016, Dr. Lansberg focused on translational medicine, establishing the Durrer Center for Cardiogenetic Research—a national biobank for the Interuniversity Cardiology Institute of the Netherlands (ICIN). He also helped develop a national IT infrastructure for clinical and experimental data management, supporting investigator-driven, multi-center translational research.
Throughout his career, Dr. Lansberg has been a sought-after speaker, participating in over 2,000 educational activities across 72 countries, sharing his valuable insights in lipidology and genetic medicine with the global scientific community.
